Guides / Scrape Reddit without the API

How to scrape Reddit without the API (and without code)

Reddit's API now needs an approved app, OAuth and rate-limit handling, and most "Reddit scraper" scripts break regularly. If you just need the posts and comments of some threads or subreddits in a spreadsheet or an AI dataset, a browser extension that reads Reddit like you do is far simpler.

Updated October 2026

Library of exported Reddit threads with comment counts
Every exported thread and collection, searchable, ready to export again in any format.

Step by step

  1. Install Thread Exporter for Reddit. Add it to Chrome, Edge or Brave. No account, no API key.
  2. Paste a subreddit, search or thread link. For a subreddit, choose the sort (top of the week, month, year or all time, hot, new) and how many posts, up to 1,000.
  3. Include the comments. Tick "with all their comments": every thread is loaded completely, hidden replies included, at the pace Reddit allows.
  4. Export. CSV for spreadsheets (one row per comment), JSON for code, Markdown or chunked JSONL for AI tools, or a ZIP with one file per thread.
Try it on a thread, free. The free version exports threads up to 300 comments to CSV and Markdown. Pro is $19.90 once for everything.

API vs extension

The API is right for apps that run on a server around the clock. For research, market analysis or building a dataset once in a while, an extension avoids the setup: it uses Reddit's public JSON pages from your own browser and follows Reddit's rate-limit headers.

What you can export

Threads (every comment, with depth, score, author, date and parent), subreddit listings, searches inside a subreddit or across Reddit, and a user's submitted posts.
