How to feed Reddit discussions to ChatGPT, Claude or your own AI
Reddit is full of first-hand answers: what customers complain about, what tools people actually use, what worked. AI assistants are great at summarising it, if you give them the whole discussion in a readable shape. Here is how to do it for one thread, and for hundreds.
Updated October 2026

Step by step
- Export the thread or subreddit. With Thread Exporter, open a thread and click "Export all comments", or open a subreddit and export its top posts of the month or year, with their comments.
- For one thread: copy as text. Click "Copy as text for ChatGPT / Claude". You get Markdown with each reply indented under its parent, plus the post. Paste it and ask your question.
- For many threads: download the AI pack. Choose "AI pack (JSONL)" and a chunk size (for example 1,500 tokens). Each line is a self-contained chunk with the thread title, question, permalink and comment ids.
- Load it in your tool. Upload the JSONL to your vector store or notebook. Each chunk carries its source link, so answers can cite the original thread.
Why structure matters to the AI
A flat list of comments loses who answers whom. Indented Markdown keeps the conversation readable, so the model can tell an answer from an objection, and the original poster's follow-ups from other people's.
Cleaning helps too: removing bots, removed comments and low-score noise makes summaries sharper and saves tokens.
Prompts that work well
"List the problems people describe, with how many people mention each, and quote one comment per problem." "What tools are recommended, and what are the main objections to each?" "Summarise the disagreement in this thread in five bullet points."
