Instagram unfollow limit: how many accounts can you unfollow per day?

Instagram never publishes its limits, and they change with the age and history of your account. Unfollow too fast and you get a "Try again later" block that can last days. Here are the ranges that stay safe, and how to clean up a big following list without risking your account.

Unfollow queue with Careful, Safe and Faster speeds, breaks and a daily cap
Unfollowers Tracker spaces actions out, takes breaks and stops on its own if Instagram pushes back.

Step by step

  1. Know your range. New accounts (under a few months): stay around 50–80 unfollows a day. Established accounts: 100–150 a day is a common safe range. Never do hundreds in one sitting.
  2. Spread them out. Leave 25–60 seconds between unfollows and take a 10–15 minute break every 10. Bursts are what trigger blocks, more than the daily total.
  3. Stop at the first warning. If Instagram shows "Try again later" or "We restrict certain activity", stop for 24–48 hours. Continuing can extend the block.
  4. Automate the pacing, not the speed. With Unfollowers Tracker, select the accounts, choose the Safe speed and let the queue work in the background. It pauses by itself on a block and resumes the next day at your daily cap.
Scan your account, free. The free scan shows your numbers and the first 30 people of each list. Pro is $14.90 once for full lists, history and safe bulk actions.

Why Instagram limits unfollows

Mass follow/unfollow is a classic spam pattern, so Instagram rate-limits it. The limit is not a single number: it depends on account age, recent activity, whether you recently changed devices or locations, and how fast the actions come.

Signs you are going too fast

Unfollows that "come back" after a refresh, buttons that do nothing, or a "Try again later" message all mean Instagram is ignoring or blocking your actions. Pause immediately.
